Rajarshi Shree Shahu Maharaj was a king of Kolhapur Chapter of Marathi Empire established by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Rajarshi Shree Shahu was a king who brought social reformation by supporting the downtrodden communities. He was influenced by the contributions of social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. Primary Education to all regardless of caste and creed was one of the most significant priorities of Rajarshi Shree Shahu Maharaj.
Rajarshi Shree Shahu Pratishthan, Chakan believes strongly that education is the key to unlock the darkness of ignorance, misbeliefs, superstitions etc. by enlightening the lamp of knowledge and wisdom in the lives of human beings. Hence the RSSP symbolically means the combination of ethics, modern concepts and Indian values.
Considering the contribution of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, a group of young men and women of Chakan flocked together on 26th June 2016, the occasion of birth anniversary of Rajarshi Shri Shahu Maharaj. This group of dedicated people decided to establish a non-government organization named after the reformist king. They vowed to follow the ideology, principles and dedication of Rajarshi. In this way, Rajarshi Shri Shahu Pratishthan was established in 2016
